New Digital Performance Right in Sound Recording Enacted


On November 1, 1995, owners of sound recordings were given an new exclusive right under the new Section 106(6) of the U.S. Copyright Law -- the exclusive right to "publicly perform sound recordings by means of digital audio transmission."

This new right, however, is extremely narrow in scope, being subject a number of complex exemptions and limitations.
